National Winter Convention
Red Power Round Up 24
By Dale Merkle
Co-Chair
The turnout at the Winter Convention in Iowa was good. Chapter 6 members at the show were Todd Kitchen, Ellen and Kevin Paul, Connie and Doug Etzkorn, Patty and Bill Swope, Mary Kaye and Jim Shutt and Lisa and Dale Merkle. Chapter 6 sold $390 in merchandise, $1605.00 in vendor space for RPRU 24 and $45 in shirts. Several vendor and chapter table contracts were handed out. These contracts are now available on the Chapter 6 website, if members know of someone who would like one.

I went to a seminar on Cub Cadet hydro transmissions. One of the original engineers, Charlie Ricketts, was a project engineer that designed the hydro system for the Cub Cadets and also worked on the hydro system for big tractors. He talked about his career at Sundstrand. After the seminar I asked Mr. Ricketts if he would like to come to Chapter 6's RPRU show with the prototype hydro Cub Cadet. He wants to come. Mike Siberhorn (retired Cub Cadet zone manager) and the person who is the current manager, stop at the chapter table. From the sounds of the discussion, Cub Cadet wants to have a good showing at Chapter 6's show. Their plans are to have a line item in their 2013 budget.
National Directors approved having the 2013 Winter Convention at the Florida Fly Wheelers show in Ft. Mead, Florida. It sounds like there isn't banquet facilities and lodging nearby. The issue for us is to have people there at a chapter table. There are members from Chapter 6 that regularly go to this show. Plans are to talk with them to see if they would represent Chapter 6 and promote RPRU 24 .
Other news from the National Winter Convention was that Chapter 33 (Northern Indiana) put in a bid to host the 2014 and 2015 Winter Convention. Chapters 1 and 3 are going together to put a bid in for RPRU 2015. Chapter 17 also is planning to put in a bid for RPRU 2015. It is good to see more than one chapter wanting to host the event.
